McQuade Library welcomes and affirms the dignity of all human beings. Increasing diversity, strengthening inclusivity, and deepening equity require deep listening, open hearts, and open minds. We honor and affirm the experiences of our students, faculty, staff, and broader community.
This resource guide was developed in an effort to enhance the capacity, confidence, and competency among Merrimack College community members. The purpose of this DEI guide is to provide the Merrimack community with a starting point for understanding racism, antiracism, allyship, sexual and gender identity, and inclusivity. In no way does this guide summarize all the resources available related to all oppressed identities.
We welcome feedback and suggestions for this resource guide. Please email your suggestions to mcquade@merrimack.edu.
We strive to embrace diversity and inclusion in our schools and workplaces, but we often fail to understand what this looks like practically. Dr. Dawn Bennett-Alexander believes that with a little effort, we can move diversity and inclusion from theory to practice.
Dawn D. Bennett-Alexander is a lawyer, an associate professor of Employment Law and Legal Studies at UGA, and co-author of the leading Employment Law text in the country, which created the discipline. Her life work is based on her belief that each of us is here for a unique purpose and come with the tools to accomplish it, including our race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. She believes part of her mission is helping people to understand that our differences should not be perceived as meaning "less than.”
