ENG 4920: Theories and Practices in the Tutoring of Writing (Alquesta)

This is a guide to library resources and research help for students in ENG 4920 and Writing Center tutors.

Introduction

This guide is intended for students in ENG 4920: Theories and Practices in the Tutoring of Writing who are training to be Merrimack College Writing Center tutors, as well as for current WC tutors. The guide provides information to help familiarize writing tutors with McQuade Library's research and reference services so that they can better assist students with research and writing issues, and determine when and how to refer students to librarians.

The guide also provides guidance to assist ENG 4920 students in their research and writing assignment for the course.

Research Help at McQuade Library

Many services and tools are available to the Merrimack community to assist them in their research. Librarians can be reached:

  • In person at McQuade Library
  • Via email at mcquade@merrimack.edu
  • Via library chat
  • Via text at 978-228-2275
  • Via phone at 978-837-5215 (Access Services desk) or 978-837-5177 (2nd floor reference line)
  • For appointments in person or on Zoom

For in-depth research needs, students and faculty have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a librarian to get help with library research.  The librarian will talk with you about your assignment/research project and the type of information you need, and then guide you to appropriate databases and other resources that will be most relevant for your research, and show you how to use them. Scholars working on major projects or theses may wish to consult a librarian several times over the course of the semester as they proceed with their research.

Librarians have also prepared many research guides in various subject areas to assist with research.
