Strategies for Searching for Books & eBooks

1) Browse the Stacks

Books at McQuade are organized by Library subject using the Library of Congress Classification system.  Find the call number associated to your subject to browse the stacks and discover all of the books at McQuade on that subject.

Call numbers A-H are on the 2nd floor & J-Z are on the 3rd floor.


2) Search the Online Catalog

Use McQuade's Online Catalog to find books, ebooks, and DVDs on your topic.


3) Expand search in the online catalog to include all NOBLE libraries.

When you are searching the online catalog, select the down arrow next to "Merriamck College" and select "NOBLE."  Now you are searching holdings in ALL NOBLE libraries.

4) Search Worldcat database

Not finding books on your topic at McQuade or in NOBLE?  Use WorldCat to access to 1.3 billion items in more than 10,000 libraries worldwide.  See "Interlibrary Loan" box to request materials you find through WorldCat.

Didn't find the book you were looking for in the catalog? Chances are, you can still get it using Interlibrary Loan.

Step One: Search for books in OCLC Worldcat that are not available at McQuade. 

Step Two: Request books that are not available at McQuade.
