Generative AI

McQuade Library's guide to using generative artificial intelligence in your academic and creative work.

About Library Research Tools and AI

As artificial intelligence proliferates into more and more areas of research and technology, library databases are increasingly incorporating AI tools and features. While these tools may offer new ways to streamline your research, it's important to note that the library has no control over the AI integrations within the databases we provide access to. We encourage users to approach these features critically and apply the same judgment they would use with any AI product.

MACKsearch - EBSCO AI Insights

MACKsearch (our main library search tool) and other EBSCO databases available from McQuade Library now have an AI tool that allows users to explore similar results to any article of interest. Use the "More Like This" button to view recommended articles the AI tool has identified.

An AI Insights tool is coming soon. This tool will provide summaries and key takeaways for search results.

JSTOR's Interactive Research Tool

JSTOR's new interactive research tool, powered by AI, is a chat bot that appears on each resource page and answers questions specific to the document. It can help users determine whether a text is relevant for their research, produce main points and keywords, and identify sources used by the author.

Users must register for a JSTOR account and sign in to use the tool. It is free to register for an account. Your JSTOR access is still provided by your Merrimack College login; the JSTOR account is a separate login.

ProQuest Research Assistant

The ProQuest Research Assistant is now available in beta mode. This tool is available in ProQuest databases such as ProQuest Central, ProQuest News & Newspapers, Nursing & Allied Health Database, and more. It provides a key takeaway from the document and additional suggested sources. It also provides a list of keyword terms used and allows users to select relevant terms and run a new search with those terms.
