Course Reserves

Learn about McQuade's Course Reserves collection here!

What are course reserves?

Course Reserves are items that a faculty member has set aside for use in a particular course. They are kept separate from the general collection and have a short loan period in order to allow many students the opportunity to utilize the materials. Reserve materials include items from the Library’s collections or the instructor’s personal copies of items.

Course Reserves can be checked out at the Library Services Desk on the first floor of McQuade.

Borrowing Guidelines

  • Course reserves are to be used in the library only (with the exception of reserves with a one week loan period).
  • Students who check out materials on reserve must present a valid Merrimack College identification card.
  • Up to three (3) reserve items may be borrowed for two hours at a time, with a maximum renewal period of an additional two hours.
  • Course reserves that are in high demand will not be renewed, thus allowing other students the opportunity to utilize the material.
  • Students may watch DVD reserves on library computers, personal laptops, or on a television set up in one of the library's seminar rooms. We also have an external DVD player available for checkout.

Fines

  • Course reserve items are subject to an accelerated fine schedule.
  • Once an item becomes 24 hours overdue, a bill notice will be issued to the borrower. If the item remains overdue seven days after the due date, a non-refundable fine of no less than $50.00 will be reported to the bursar.
  • In addition, the course instructor may be notified that a reserve item has been kept longer than the intended loan period. However, in keeping with the library's confidentiality policy, the name of the patron with the overdue item will never be disclosed.
