This list is organized by state. Professionals are listed with their email addresses and have agreed to help parents/caregivers who contact them get in touch with programs or resources in their state. Note: Professionals are NOT required to provide any evaluation, treatment, or other direct services; they are simply a source for you to find local programming and support for your child. This is a list of Deaf and hard of hearing commissions by state. Each commission should have an educational advocate that you can ask to join you in advocating for your DHH child. They can also help you get a lawyer and help you with doctors offices not providing interpreters for your DHH child.
This is a list of camps for Deaf children listed by state. Find a camp in your area that fits your child’s interests and needs.
Join the Language First Facebook group for parents of Deaf and hard of hearing children looking for resources and support from other parents using an ASL-English bilingual approach with their child.
Listservs and discussion groups are other important sources of information that complement more traditional sources (books, journals, magazines). Listservs are e-mail group messaging systems on specific topics or subjects-- listservs route e-mail messages to all subscribers or members of the list.
There are no costs for subscribing. Though there are listservs and discussion groups on many topics, listed below are several for sign language and interpreting. Joining a listserv gives you an opportunity to stay ahead of the curve in your field because it can provide cutting edge discussions on theories and developments within your area of interest or expertise.
Though most listservs are open to the general public, there are highly specialized lists that have restricted access. CAUTION: listservs can generate a great deal of e-mail activity; be selective. It is advisable initially to join one or two lists to monitor the number of messages generated daily.
Once a list receives your request to join, instructions will be sent to your e-mail account explaining the lists' rules and policies.
