Social Progress Index & Report CardThe Index consists of 52 indicators, divided into three major categories: basic human needs (shelter, sanitation), foundations of well-being (life-expectancy, school enrollment), and opportunity (tolerance, political rights). The indicator data come from well-respected producers of social data such as the United Nations, World Health Organization, OECD, and the World Bank, and are updated yearly. Data analysis is made available as brief summaries, detailed reports, graphic presentations, or full datasets, with options to embed, download, or display the data tables in different ways, instantly reconfigured online. Social Progress Index distinguishes itself from similar measures, such as the United Nation's Human Development Index at http://hdr.undp.org/, the OECD Better Life Index (CH, Dec'13, 51-1847), or the Happy Planet Index (CH, Aug'09, 46-6878), because it eliminates economic variables and/or is more extensive in its reach. Unlike the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index (CH, Dec'13, 51-2118), it uses objective rather than self-reported data.
