Mendeley

This guide can help you get started using the citation management tool Mendeley.

Setting Up Your Mendeley Account

1. Create a free account 

All you need is an email address to sign up for a free Mendeley account- click on the "Sign up for Mendeley" link below. 

  • Once your account is created, you can use the My Library features to start adding files and creating folders to organize your sources. 
  • Using the Online Dashboard you can search for other researchers, groups, and papers. Anything you do while logged into the Mendeley website will automatically sync to the Mendeley Desktop and Mendeley mobile applications. 

2. Download Mendeley Desktop 

The latest version of Mendeley desktop software is available for Windows XP/Mac OS X 10.6 or later. Once your account is created, click on the "Download Mendeley Desktop" link below.

  • Using the Mendeley Desktop allows you to "save time managing PDFs, instantly share thoughts on papers with colleagues and automatically back up and sync your files between different computers."

3. Install Web Importer

This Click on the "Install Web Importer" link below, then drag the gray "Save to Mendeley" button into your Bookmarks Bar. 

  • Using Mendeley Web Importer allows you to upload citations from a wide variety of online sources directly to your Mendeley account with a single click.

Mendeley Supported Sites

Below is a list of over fifty publishers and databases that include a Mendeley import tool on their website. These tools allow you to save citations to your Mendeley account directly from the publisher's website.
